Lose Weight

I was preparing a simple lab question for my students and I had the idea of putting it here in my blog. Now you can check your BMI using the simple form that you see on your right.

Body Mass Index (BMI) is actually a way of calculating the ideal weight for a person using the formula

BMI = weight in kg / height(in meters) x height(in meters)

So what does BMI mean? Well the table above can give you a rough idea of what it tells about a person. So how to loose the extra weight that you gained? Well here are some tips for all of you out there.

  • Avoid drinking carbonated drinks, replace them with fruit juice(without sugar) or just plain water.
  • Drink low fat milk
  • Eat fewer portions of meals, but you can take several meals a day.
  • Reduce the intake of fast food and sugary meals.
  • Reduce your sugar intake.
  • Exercise at least for 20 minutes, three time per week. It doesn’t have to be a heavy cardio workout, but just a morning or evening walk will do.

Opera Mini

I saw Maxis advertisement on television yesterday. They were promoting the usage on a new browser for handphones. It is called Opera Mini. It is better than the normal browser application that I have in my Sony Ericsson K610i handphone. Easy to use and for me it is more user friendly. Try it!!.

My eye check

Vision was a problem to me since young and even if I wore spectacles, the optometrist always tells me that its difficult to get the correct power for my eyes. Only recently I came to know that I have lazy eyes after I had my eyes checked at one optometrist in Air Keroh, Melaka. I had an excellent eye checkup and I was shocked when the salesperson told me the purchase was only RM390.00. It was cheap as I have never paid less than RM500.00 for my glasses. Well, if you are staying in Melaka, why not visit Chan Optometrist for your next eye check.

Vacation in Kuantan

Three of my friends and I were assigned to go to Kuantan and teach in Institute Latihan Perindustrian (ILP) Kuantan last semester. It was not something that we volunteered for, but we had to do it. The trip was very smooth as we drove through Segamat, Muadzam Shah and finally Gebeng. But it took us around four hours and a half to reach the place. I have attached some pictures here to share will all of you.

I asked a girl to take a photo of us.

The four of us. The girl lost her focus I guess. But anyway...it was a good try.

We were checking who got the largest feet.

Hahahaha...just kidding.

Our dinner. Most of the people here have sweet tooth. I hope you know what I mean.

In the ILP computing lab. My friends were addicted to a Korean drama serial while we were there.

Honey

The usual topic of discussion for lunch usually can comprise from students’ behaviour (our favourite) to politics. But for lunch today we actually got into a very interesting topic…honey. How did the topic come into existence u might ask. The answer to that is actually quite simple. I was asking my Boss what kind of drinks he usually has for breakfast. And his answer was a table spoon of honey with warm water. Interesting eh! According to him it helps with digestion and should be taken two hours before meals. Honey is actually the world’s most ancient sweetener and it is being used by everyone under the sun. Not only for its sweetness, honey is also used for medicinal and as a natural beauty agent. I have actually seen documentaries where doctors use honey on wounds to make it heal faster. The colours can vary from light gold to dark brown. It is composed of carbohydrates and water. It also has small amounts of vitamin and minerals. Darker honey has been shown to have more antioxidant contents compared to lighter honey. So I learnt something today for lunch. Maybe tomorrow we can talk about students’ behaviour… hahahaha.

Gifts from my students

I got a very unusual gift from a student recently for Teachers’ Day. It was a cactus. I wonder what it meant. Is it because I am quite prickly at times and being hard on students? As for me as cactus grows in the most hostile weather…its grows beautifully. Well maybe it symbolizes the triumph of it over its environment. Well in my case, maybe it symbolizes my triumph over my students. Well, of course the student meant well…and if you are reading this Anis…thank you so much. It’s not everyday that teachers get appreciated by their students.

I had one more occasion recently where student bought for me a huge cake from of course…Secret Recipe. It was a Cappuccino Cheese cake that was layered with vanilla and topped with chocolate rice. It was nice of them to do that...and buying me something that has coffee (my favourite) in it…it’s amazing.

I am not writing this to show off or to ask for more…but it’s a feeling of happiness that I have when students appreciate what I do for them. They don’t even have to give me gifts to say their gratitude, as long as they feel that I have made a difference in their lives and that I have made them to be a better person (maybe a better programmer..hahaha) is good enough.
